Artificial intelligence (AI) is used to a limited extent in the day-to-day operations of Alverdae AB. This statement provides an insight into why and how I use AI.
View on AI
AI can help make business operations more efficient. It can also support me in developing new ideas and creative expressions. However, I am not blind to the negative effects associated with the use of AI. Consider, for example, the enormous energy and water consumption, the training of models in unethical ways, and potential privacy breaches.
How I use AI
Given the above-mentioned drawbacks of AI, I use it as little as possible and as effectively as possible. Where possible, I have disabled AI services or ensure that no personal data ends up in the AI services. I also have an AI programme installed locally on my computer, which further reduces the negative impact of its use. I am, however, still learning in this area and am open to improvements.
As a customer or user of this website or other communications, you will always be reading content that I have written myself. I may use generative AI to assist me with this, but even then, the result is always produced by me or on my behalf.
Where I use AI
I have assessed that everything I use AI for falls into the lowest-risk category. Examples include:
- Translation programmes. When translating, I remove personal data before uploading texts to the translation service’s servers.
- Office programmes. In Office, I have disabled Copilot and other AI functionality wherever possible.
- Generative artificial intelligence: I use a local AI programme and an online programme that do not use user data for other purposes, such as training language models.
- Accounting software. When uploading purchase invoices, the content is scanned and read by AI functionality. I cannot disable this.
- Website hosting. I do not have a full understanding of where AI is used, but I assume it is used to combat spam and malware.
Unfortunately, there are also services I use that contain built-in AI functionality which cannot be disabled. I try to avoid these as much as possible and look for alternatives that do not use AI functionality. However, this is not always possible.
